About

Hi, I’m Peter.

I’m a mortgage broker and Broker-Owner of Bayside Mortgage Solutions, based in Duncan and serving clients across British Columbia and Alberta.

I write for homebuyers and homeowners in the Cowichan Valley, Southern Vancouver Island, Airdrie and the Calgary area. My chemical engineering training shapes how I examine mortgage terms, penalties, lender choices and long-term costs.

A quoted rate tells you one part of a mortgage. I started working in mortgages in 2004, and I’ve seen how the lender, prepayment terms, penalties and plans for the property can change the result over time. This publication gives readers the detail needed to compare those pieces before a purchase, refinance or renewal.

What I cover

Mortgages in context

I cover Canadian mortgage rates, lender products, renewals, refinancing and the costs that sit beside a mortgage payment, including property tax and condo fees. I also share useful findings from sources such as CMHC, Financial Post and Canadian Mortgage Trends, with context for homeowners in British Columbia and Alberta.

Who it’s for

Buyers and homeowners

This site is for families and individuals buying a home, reviewing an existing mortgage or preparing for renewal. My local focus includes Duncan and the Cowichan Valley, Southern Vancouver Island, Airdrie and the Calgary area.

My approach

Work through the numbers

My first career was as a chemical engineer technologist. I bring that same systematic habit to mortgage planning by comparing products from multiple lenders and examining the rate alongside the term, restrictions, penalties and the borrower’s plans for the home. The details belong in the decision.
